The Big MMORPG List
A highly dynamic, massive-traffic database directory built for gamers. We implemented complex architectural filtering, deep structured data, and an immersive dark-mode UI capable of handling thousands of concurrent users seamlessly.
The brief
A content directory covering hundreds of titles, each with many attributes users want to filter on simultaneously. The hard problems were query performance under load, and making a database-driven site genuinely indexable rather than a single JavaScript application search engines cannot read.
The approach
-
Designed a normalised schema and indexed it around the filter combinations users actually request.
-
Rendered filtered views server-side so every meaningful combination is a crawlable URL with its own title, description and canonical.
-
Built a custom administrative interface so entries can be maintained without developer involvement.
-
Applied structured data per entry so search engines can parse individual records rather than one undifferentiated list.
-
Built the dark interface to WCAG AA contrast, including the data-dense table and filter views.
The result
- Filtered directory views are individually indexable, turning one page into a large set of targeted landing pages.
- Server-rendered output keeps the catalogue fast under concurrent load without client-side rendering cost.
- Non-technical editors maintain the catalogue directly, removing the developer from routine content updates.
